MCV & VMHC Partner Lecture: Founding Martyr

MCV & VMHC Partner Lecture: Founding Martyr

About

As the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture and the MCV Foundation are joining forces to shed light on the life of Dr. Joseph Warren, one of history’s forgotten founding fathers, in their annual Health and History Lecture.

Although Dr. Warren was an architect of colonial rebellion and military leader, little has been written about one of the most important figures in early American history following his death 250 years ago at the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775.

In his book, Founding Martyr: The Life and Death of Dr. Joseph Warren, The American Revolution’s Lost Hero, historian Christian Di Spigna sheds new light on this hero involved in almost every early act of revolution in the Boston area, from the Stamp Act protests to the Boston Massacre to the Boston Tea Party, and his incendiary writings included the famous Suffolk Resolves, which helped unite the colonies against Britain and inspired the Declaration of Independence.

Join the Virginia Museum of History & Culture and the MCV Foundation for a fascinating discussion of this forgotten founder, whose legacy weaves together medicine, history, and 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

Christian Di Spigna received his degree in history from Columbia University. He is the author of Founding Martyr: The Life and Death of Dr. Joseph Warren, the American Revolution's Lost Hero and the Executive Director of the Dr. Joseph Warren Foundation. He also serves on the board of the Charlestown Historical Society, is a member of the Bunker Hill Monument Association, and is the Vice-Chairman for the Massachusetts Freemason's Revolution 250 Committee. He has dedicated nearly three decades to the study of Dr. Joseph Warren and the Boston rebellion.
