About

Founded in 1971, the Warren Heritage Society is dedicated to saving and making the history of Front Royal and Warren County. Our mission is to preserve the history of this area through our living history museums, our permanent exhibits, our lecture series, and our History Camp in the summer for kids.

With the Laura Virginia Hale Archives we provide genealogical assistance to more than a thousand people a year. Our records include every issue of the Warren Sentinel, extensive funeral home records, and more. Numerous issues of our Journal, Warren's Heritage, further make local history available.

The historic properties of the Belle Boyd Cottage and the Balthis House, and their outbuildings, make history come alive through the docented tours that are available year-round.

Every year the Society sponsors the Festival of Leaves on the 2nd Saturday of October as a community celebration and its major fundraiser. We are a private organization dependent upon private contributions.
