The Bray School Opening
November 1, 2024
Colonial Williamsburg – Art Museums Lawn
Join VA250 in commemorating the reconstruction and opening of the Williamsburg Bray School site, the oldest extant building dedicated in the United States dedicated to the education of Black children. Partners Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and William & Mary’s Bray School Lab have been hard at work restoring this historic site to make it a symbol of the story of race, religion, and education in Williamsburg and America.
The ceremony will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 1, on the Lawn of the Art Museums. It will be followed by a reception, community art projects, entertainment, and a series of panel discussions and interpretive programs in the Hennage Auditorium, free and open to the public.
