Nassawadox Historic District

Nassawadox Historic District

About

Nassawadox rose to local prominence as a center of trade and commerce due to the steam powered sawmill that was once located in town. Named for the Nusswatok Indians, the name derives from the Native American word for "land between two waters." The present town of Nassawadox was established along the railroad in 1884. Things to see include the landmark Northampton Lumber Company and the sawmill museum. A history walking tour is available at the lumber store or the public library.
