Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery

About

Founded in 1774, Trinity United Methodist Church, located today at 2911 Cameron Mills Road in Alexandria, is a vibrant congregation that welcomes all through its doors. The Trinity Cemetery was founded 1808 and is part of Alexandria's historic Wilkes Street Cemetery Complex, a collection of 13 cemeteries that represent an ecumenical cross-section of 200 years of local and national history. Hundreds are buried here, including eight Revolutionary War veterans: James Campbell, Abraham Faw, Gustavus Fugitt, John Longden, William Patterson, John Potten, John Sloan, and Joseph Smith. One fought beside General George Washington, one was a prisoner of war, and one protected the shores of the Chesapeake. In addition, the cemetery includes a War of 1812 veteran, a former Mayor of Alexandria, early leaders in the free Black community, as well as many other past Alexandria residents.
