Educator Field Trip & Seminar

Educator Field Trip & Seminar

About

Are you an educator with a love of history? Join the Virginia Council for the Social Studies (VCSS) for a full-day field trip to the Patrick Henry National Memorial focusing on telling the “complete” history of Red Hill. All educators are welcome!

– Itinerary –

The morning will include a full tour of the historic estate featuring the site of the Henry home, outbuildings, and Henry family cemetery. Attendees will also tour Quarter Place, the center of the African American community during the 150-year history of Red Hill. Quarter Place also contains a cemetery with 147 known graves of African Americans who lived and worked at Red Hill.

Following a catered lunch, two workshop sessions will address how Red Hill staff engage with visitors:

– First session: Explaining the “Visitor Journey” at Red Hill from arrival to departure. Then, hear the vision of Red Hill’s CEO on how visitors can potentially be transformed into donors and learn how Red Hill works towards this rewarding end.

– Second session: Education staff will discuss the skills demonstrated during Living History events at Red Hill. Topics will include volunteers, interacting with students and adults, and the lives of the enslaved. These sessions also provide opportunities for group discussions about what other museums and historic sites do.

* Tickets are $5 per person. *
