Join the Poplar Forest Archaeology and Landscapes Department every Friday from March 22-May 31 at 1:30 p.m. for an in-depth look into their current excavations and what they are learning about the people who lived in and around the 1857 Slave Dwelling. While the 1857 Slave Dwelling is a structure that is not associated with the Jefferson-era of the property, it is historically important as it is the only original dwelling built for enslaved people still standing on the property. The building and yard surrounding it are able to provide vital information about the people who were living in the building and provide a glimpse into life on the property from the plantation period of Poplar Forest history tp the early 20th century. The Archaeology and Landscapes Department is discovering new artifacts often and we look forward to sharing their discoveries with the public!
