The Rockbridge Historical Society’s annual Black History Month series turns to World War II this year: honoring the range of African American soldiers and servicemen and women who served our local community, and global war effort, through the "Double V Campaign."

On Feb. 25 (6 PM, Lexington Library), the series concludes with a "Revolutionary Books" discussion of Michael Delmont’s best-selling "HALF AMERICAN," chronicling Americans’ diverse commitments to fight fascism abroad, and racism at home, while jointly winning "The War of Supply," and "On the Front Lines."

The series begins on Feb. 10 (6PM, Lexington Library), with a free screening of "THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT" will seed a "Revolutionary Films" discussion of women’s leadership in sorting the morale-sapping gridlock of mail sent to Europe.

On Feb. 15 (3 PM, Lylburn Downing Cafeteria), a slideshow presentation by RHS Executive Director Eric Wilson will highlight profiles of local Black WW2 veterans, and film clips about the (de)segregation of US Armed Forces at large; a community roundtable and open mic round out the event, inviting family histories of service and sacrifice.
