Meet the Author of Eliza's Story, Barbara VornDick, Saturday, October 18th from 10a-12p at the Franklin County Library in Rocky Mount. Barbara is a native of Virginia and spent many years teaching in various schools and colleges. When she retired from teaching, she started working as a part-time interpreter of history at James Monroe's Highland, the Monroe family plantation in Albemarle County, Virginia. Barbara was encouraged to continue private research for the Monroe family and became interested in the women of the family, especially Eliza, who was James Monroe's eldest daughter. After five years of researching Eliza's life and death, Barbara set out on a quest to bring back Eliza's remains from Paris, France.
