Washington at Wilton: a 250th Anniversary Tea

Washington at Wilton: a 250th Anniversary Tea

About

In March of 1775, then-Colonel George Washington gathered with dozens of Virginia's most prominent political figures in Richmond to debate the colony's role in the impending Revolution at the Second Virginia Convention. In need of a place to stay, Washington recorded that he paid a two-day visit to “Mrs. Randolph of Wilton" during his time at the Convention.

As Wilton House Museum commemorates the 250th anniversary of Washington's visit to Wilton this year, we invite you to join us on Saturday, March 1st for a tour and tea with George Washington and Anne Randolph! This is a family-focused event educational program intended to bring Richmond's Revolutionary history to life. Program highlights include...

- Interact with costumed, first-person interpreters portraying George Washington (Brian Hilton) and Anne Randolph of Wilton (Lee Ann Rose) on a tour through Wilton's paneled halls
- Learn about Washington in the buildup to the Revolution and the political power of elite women in Colonial Virginia
- Explore the role tea played in Virginian society while you sip on a homemade blend made specially for Wilton!
