Over the next few years, Arlington, Virginia, and our whole country will be celebrating the nation’s 250 founding. Kevin Vincent will set the stage for the role that the area now known as Arlington County played during the Revolution. At that time, the 26 square miles had less than 2000 people, including the enslaved and the indentured. In fact, what would become Arlington was then part of Fairfax County and would soon become part of Washington, D.C. Despite our relatively tiny size and population then, as today, our forebears had an outsized role in our nation’s history. Residents of Northern Virginia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution. Mr. Vincent will lay the ground work for us before the series of commemorative events throughout our county highlight our nation’s successes, failures, and challenges.
