Finding Freedom in a Time of Independence: Black Patriots in the Revolutionary War

Finding Freedom in a Time of Independence: Black Patriots in the Revolutionary War

About

African American men, free and enslaved, fought in the Continental Army during America’s Revolutionary War, but their roles are not well-known.
Historians Marvin-Alonzo Greer and John U. Rees will share stories of courageous service and patriotism, even though independence from Britain
did not mean freedom for all.

Presented by Oatlands, The Black History Committee of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library, and Gary Clemens, Clerk of the Circuit Court Historic Records Division.

The program is free and open to the public. Advance registration not required.
Copies of "Don Troiani’s Black Soldiers in America’s Wars, 1754-1865" will be available for purchase.
