1774 Yorktown Tea Party Reenactment

1774 Yorktown Tea Party Reenactment

About

Boston wasn't the only place to host their own Tea Party in the 18th Century. Virginia held one in Yorktown on November 7, 1774. Thomas Nelson, Jr. and members of the York County Committee of Safety openly went on board of a ship and tossed two small chests of tea into the York River. The tea had been imported despite a boycott.

On Saturday, November 11, join Thomas Nelson Jr. and Committee of Safety interpreters in front of the Swan Tavern (301 Main Street) at 10 a.m. to march down to the riverfront with the Fifes and Drums of York Town. Then at 12 p.m., citizens are invited to cheer on the Committee at the Freight Shed (331 Water Street) to hear a proclamation and observe a tea party reenactment.
