About: Celebrate the 9th Act of Congress, the Lighthouse Act, on the anniversary of its signing, August 7th! Activities will run from 10am until 5pm. Events include BOTH Cape Henry Lighthouses being open for the public to climb, a family activity area featuring the Virginia Beach Aquarium, Fort Monroe Authority, the Navy Environmental Stewardship Program, the Fairfield Foundation and crafts and games, food provided by Marine Canteen and special talks and displays explaining the history of lighthouses and their importance to navigation. Cape Henry Lighthouse is located on Fort Story, an active military installation, public visitation is assisted by a shuttle system beginning at Gate 8 on the north end of Atlantic Avenue, visitors over 16 years of age must have identification for access.
