Description:
The annual event is held to honor the Dr. Joseph Warren, namesake of Warren County who epitomized true courage and patriotism in the years leading up to the American Revolution. This event recognizes both his birth date June 11th, 1741 and the day that he perished at the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17th, 1775 giving his last full measure of devotion to the cause he so passionately believed in for freedom and liberty from tyranny. The County flag will be lowered to half-staff at the Warren County Government Center and County facilities for the week.
The event will include a benediction and speeches honoring Dr. Warren by Larry Johnson descendant of Revolutionary War Soldier, aka Able Johnston- Liberty Man and County dignitaries. The Colonel James Wood, II Chapter of Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will appear as a Color Guard for the event which will also include a 21-gun salute with flintlocks. The lowering of the Warren County flag to half-staff will culminate the closing of the ceremony. The general public and children of all ages are invited.
