Supporting VA250

Established by the Virginia General Assembly, the American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) is leading Virginia’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence by engaging communities across the Commonwealth through impactful exhibits, events, and programs.

Our overarching goals are to:

  • Educate Americans, including our students, about our history, our founding ideals, and our system of government;
  • Engage with every community and every Virginia locality in events that tell a complete story; and
  • Inspire us all to commit to the values inherent in American citizenship.

Key accomplishments since VA250’s founding include leading a series of “America. Made In Virginia” Signature Events, including A Common Cause to All (a national convening of state planners) and the Independence Day Celebration at the Virginia State Capital in 2024, Fort Monroe in 2025 and planning for the Semiquincentennial Celebration at Colonial Williamsburg on July 4, 2026, as well as supported dozens of local events. VA250 has launched signature exhibitions, including two Mobile Museum Experiences, which are traveling across the Commonwealth; securing more than $6 million in private support to date in support of VA250’s programs; and directing $1M+ to local VA250 events through grants and matching funds.

Why Support VA250

The Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) is leading the Commonwealth’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, engaging every Virginia locality through signature events, immersive exhibits, and educational programs. With a projected 7–10 million visitors statewide and $1-$1.5 billion in economic impact during the commemoration, Virginia’s 250th offers partners a unique platform for national brand visibility and engagement with Virginia’s citizens and leaders.

The commemoration culminates on July 4, 2026, when VA250 and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation will co-host a national celebration. This event will be broadcast nationwide and will feature a naturalization ceremony, cultural performances, educational programming, a drone light show, fireworks, and more.
