J. Sidna Allen House

J. Sidna Allen House

About

This Queen Anne-style home was built for businessman and farmer J. Sidna Allen. His friend Prieston Dickens worked with Sidna on the exterior, while Sidna's wife, Bettie Mitchell Allen, was responsible for the interior's design. Craftsmen from as far as Surry County labored from 1910-1911 to complete the home. It includes oak and white maple floors and examples of acetelyne gas lighting, with beveled and stained glasswork throughout. Some period furnishings are on display. The site boasts beautiful views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
The home is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
