Highlights of Montpelier Tour

About

A visit to Montpelier connects you to the foundations of American democracy, where "a more perfect Union" took shape and continues to inspire today.

Join us on this one-hour guided tour of Montpelier’s historic mansion, commemorating 250 years since James Madison launched his extraordinary political career in 1776. Follow Madison’s evolution from young revolutionary to his political career as Father of the Constitution, Architect of the Bill of Rights, and fourth president of the United Sates. Discover where he transformed the ideas of American Independence into an enduring framework of self-government. Learn about Dolley Madison’s defining role as America’s first First Lady and uncover the legacies of the enslaved people who lived and labored at Montpelier but to whom freedom was denied.
