In Pursuit of an Education:  The Fight Against Jim Crow in  Norfolk County’s Black Schools: An Educational Exhibit

This exhibit tells the story of the education of African Americans in Norfolk County (present-day Chesapeake) from the reconstruction era of 1870 to the 1954 ruling of Brown v. Board of Education which declared that segregation was unconstitutional. The opening reception is Sunday, February 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The opening event is free and open to the public. The exhibition is also free and runs through March 31; tours are available by appointment only by calling 757-382-6411.
