On Saturday, June 20, 2026 the Shenandoah County Historical Society will celebrate the sights, sounds, and spirit of the American Revolution at "Shenandoah County Celebrates 1776." The event is your opportunity to discover the life of Revolutionary soldiers and their followers with a Dragoon Regiment also attending. Distinguished authors and experts will give lectures on the Declaration of Independence, bygone 4th of July celebrations, Peter Muhlenberg, the 8th VA regiment, Historic Trappe, Dunmore Resolves, the Shenandoah Valley during the Revolution, and more. Professional reenactors will portray Peter Muhlenberg, Patrick Henry, Marquis deLafayette, Daniel Morgan, and Billy Lee. Living history artisans will share period weaving, gunsmithing, basketry, blacksmithing, leather working, shoe/boot making, woodworking, surveying, tape looming, and more. A Dulcimer performance and drummer & fife will delight all. 18th century children’s games and crafts will be available. Celebration will include asking visitors to learn and participate in Colonial era dancing.
