In celebration of America's 250th birthday, Cape Charles will be a Sail Virginia 2026 affiliate harbor and will welcome three tall ships to SailFest Cape Charles from June 19th to the 21st, 2026. The beautiful sailing vessels visiting Cape Charles Lynx, AJ Meerwald and Kalmar Nyckel will be open for free tours from noon to 6:00 p.m. on June 20th and 21st. The SailFest Cape Charles weekend long series of special events will provide a wonderful means to tell the story of the contributions of the Eastern Shore during the revolution and the establishment of our nation. Some highlights include period re-enactors, fife & drum corps, presentations by local historians as well as local mariners, children's activities, Saturday night concert and fireworks and free tours of the featured historical ships - the schooner Lynx, New Jersey's official tall ship AJ Meerwald and the majestic Kalmar Nyckel.
