Carroll County Historical Society Museum

About

The Carroll County Historical Society Museum is located in the historic courthouse on Main Street. Exhibits and artifacts reflect the heritage of Carroll County with partial reproductions of a log cabin interior and a one-room schoolhouse, Civil War items, mining tools and minerals, and early Native American artifacts recovered from nearby archaeological work. The museum also has extensive reference materials. A scavenger hunt activity is available for younger visitors.
Guided tours are available of the historic 1873 courthouse, site of the tragic courtroom shooting incident in 1912. This is located upstairs from the museum. Please call ahead to confirm availability.

The mission of the Carroll County Historical Society is preserving and presenting the history of the County of Carroll, Commonwealth of Virginia. The county is named after Charles Carroll, one of the 56 men to sign the Declaration of Independence.

Museum admission is free.
