Fundamentals of Tablet Weaving- Start to Finish Class

About

Join us and take a class learning a historic craft found throughout the colonies, that dates back further than that! Tablet (or card weaving) dates back to at least the Iron Age, though there has been continued debate on if there is a longer history for this art.

At its core, tablet weaving uses square tablets-cards- with a hole in each corner through which yarn is threaded to create the shed as the cards are turned. This opens up a multitude of possibilities for color, pattern, and design on this warp-faced weaving. The class will briefly touch on some historic uses and patterns of tablet weaving, different weaving set ups, the mechanics of how the warp affects pattern, warping, and weaving. Students will warp and weave their own project, then be able to take it home to continue if needed. This class costs $245, which includes all materials fees and lunch.

*Please note that weaving requires a repetitive back and forth motion and pulling, and that students are recommended to bring a belt.
