Black Artist Showcase at Jamestown Settlement

About

Black Artist Showcase
February 1 - March 29, 2026 • Jamestown Settlement

Jamestown Settlement’s annual Black Artist Showcase returns in February in celebration of Black History Month connecting the past and present through vivid intersections of contemporary art and 17th-century history. The art exhibition will be on display through March 29, 2026.

Throughout American history, Black Americans have used the arts to express their hopes for the future. In a 1774 letter, the enslaved poet Phillis Wheatley expressed that the principle of deliverance "...lives in us. God grant Deliverance in his own Way and Time."

Inspired by Wheatley’s poetic words and in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Black Artist Showcase theme—"Raise Your Voices: Sounds of Protest"—continues Wheatley’s legacy, and contemporary Virginia artists will exhibit their perspectives through various art mediums.

The Black Artist Showcase is included with admission to Jamestown Settlement: $20 for adults, $10 for youth ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under. Residents of York County, James City County and the City of Williamsburg, including William & Mary students, receive complimentary admission with proof of residency.

Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Jamestown Settlement is located on 2110 Jamestown Road (State Route 31) southwest of Williamsburg. Learn more at jyfmuseums.org.
