Rice's Hotel / Hughlett's Tavern

Dating back to the late 1700's, Historic Rice's Hotel/Hughlett's Tavern is located in Heathsville's Historic District behind the Old Northumberland Courthouse.Working artisan guilds on-site include the Blacksmiths in the Forge and the Woodworkers in their colonial and modern workshops. The Quilters and the Spinners & Weavers have studios inside the Tavern, which also houses the "Heritage Arts Center" gift shoppe and Tavern Cafe´, plus several museum rooms. An antique carriage exhibit is on display in the Carriage House.
The Tavern operates the Heathsville Farmers Market on the third Saturday of the month, April-October. Heritage arts classes available in blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, and more.
Other Tavern activities include the Annual Wine, Brew & Spirits Fest on the third Saturday in May; Beer, Band & BBQ Fundraiser on the second Saturday in September; Golden Village Christmas fair on the first Saturday in December.
Open Thurs. - Sat., 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Gift Shoppe features the hand-crafted wares of over 70 local artists, plus several artisans in residence. The volunteers of the Tavern's Culinary Guild run the Tavern Cafe', making homemade soups, fresh-baked bread, sandwiches, salads, quiche, and sweet treats. Menu changes weekly.
