Prince Edward County is in the heart of Virginia and was formed in 1754 with a deep and meaningful history. Prince Edward is the location of Israel Hill, a community of free Black people founded in 1810, we are right next door to the Appomattox Court House where the Civil War Ended, and is the country’s first two college town with Hampden Sydney College and Longwood University. We are also home to 5 state parks. We are also host to National Historic Landmark: Robert Russa Moton Museum, where in 1951 Black students led a walk out to protest the conditions of their education, and eventually became 75% of the plaintiffs for the Brown v Board of Education Supreme Court Case. The Heart of Virginia Festival is a yearly event that is happening 9.16.23. We are currently in the planning process for the 250th commemoration.
While there are currently no events listed specifically for Prince Edward County, search the VA250 Statewide Calendar of Events for a comprehensive listing of programs across the state.
