Rochelle-Prince Historic Home

About

The Rochelle Prince House was the home of James Rochelle, the clerk of the Southampton County Court during the famous trial of Nat Turner. James Rochelle'e daughter, Mattie, married John Tyler, Jr., son of US President John Tyler. Today, the Rochell Prince House is owned by the Southampton County Historical Society through the generosity of the late Ann Louisa Prince. Although a wing at the rear of the house has been removed, the simple white frame house has changed little since it housed one of Southampton County's more prominent 19th century families.Open:1st & 3rd Sundays of each month for tours.
