Friendship Firehouse Museum

Friendship Firehouse Museum

About

In a town of mostly wooden buildings, where open flames provided heat, light, and cooking, fire was a constant danger. The Friendship Firehouse was founded in 1774 and served as Alexandria's first volunteer fire department, fighting fires into the late 19th century. Today, the Friendship Firehouse Museum preserves their stories and equipment. Guests can learn about the early history of the fire department and how valuable volunteer firefighters were to their respective communities.
