General Hugh Mercer Monument

About

This bronze statue of General Mercer was erected in 1906 by the US government. The sculptor was Edward Valentine of Richmond, who did the famous reclining statue of Robert E. Lee at Washington and Lee University. Mercer, a general in the Revolutionary War, was killed at the Battle of Princeton in 1777. General George S. Patton of World War II fame was a great, great grandson of Hugh Mercer.
