GRIVA Workshop - Brendon S. Burns

GRIVA Workshop - Brendon S. Burns

About

GRIVA is gearing up for the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War with three workshops this summer focusing on colonial records.

Take your Revolutionary War era research to the next level. Expanding on GRIVA’s May lecture of Virginia sources, learn how to research tricky ancestors from New Hampshire to Georgia, as local and regional contributions to the patriotic cause may exist in those areas. Minority groups, including French ancestors (both Acadian and French Army), Spanish ancestors, free Black and enslaved persons, the Jewish, and women, will also be discussed.

Brendon S. Burns is a senior genealogist with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) in Washington, D.C. His childhood love of history, encouraged by his grandfather’s interest in genealogy, has led to thirteen books, focusing primarily on his maternal family’s roots in Grayson County, Virginia, but also including books related to New York and the Revolutionary War. Burns operates a blog, The Ancestral Clark, and as “The Virginia Genealogist,” he researches inquiries relating to Virginia as well as 18th century research across the American colonies.

The two-hour workshop is $15 for GRIVA members or $20 for non-members. Or, get a package deal for all three of our summer colonial and Revolutionary War workshops (Ray Thompson in June, Barbara Vines Little in July, and Brendon S. Burns in August) for $40 for GRIVA members and $55 for non-members.
