GRIVA Workshop - Ray G. Thompson

GRIVA Workshop - Ray G. Thompson

About

GRIVA is gearing up for the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War with three workshops this summer focusing on colonial records.

GRIVA Workshop - Ray G. Thompson, PhD: Interpreting Colonial Handwriting

Have you avoided researching old documents and letters because you found looking at the scrip was just too difficult? Then give this workshop a chance to change that and learn how to read those hard-to-read documents that contain so much valuable information.

This two-hour workshop is being taught by Dr. Ray Thompson who has more than fifty years experience transcribing original records. He will present various handwriting scripts used during colonial times, making use of actual documents. This workshop is designed to give you a better understanding of the writing, terminology, spelling variations, and much more. It will give you the skills, and confidence needed to read the private correspondence of ancestors and to interpret the numerous kinds of local public records, including wills, deeds, and court records.

Participants will discover that they need not fear looking at original records, or be frustrated by trying to interpret them!

The two-hour workshop is $15 for GRIVA members or $20 for non-members. Or, get a package deal for all three of our summer colonial and Revolutionary War workshops (Ray Thompson in June, Barbara Vines Little in July, and Brendon S. Burns in August) for $40 for GRIVA members and $55 for non-members.
