Juneteenth Festival

Juneteenth Festival

About

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated on June 19th, the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people in the state were free. The news came more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, marking a significant moment in American history.

To honor this momentous occasion, the Louisa County Historical Society and the Louisa County Chapter of the NAACP are proud to host this year's Juneteenth Festival. This event will be a celebration of freedom, Black history, culture, and will feature a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages. Visitors can expect to enjoy live music, dance performances, historical exhibits, arts and crafts, food vendors, and more.

We invite everyone to join us on Saturday, June 15th, from 11 am - 3 pm at the Historical Society to honor the past and look towards a brighter future. Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience!
