Animals of the Revolution

Animals of the Revolution

About

As part of the Virginia and America 250 commemorations, join the Fairfield Foundation for a hands-on archaeology experience exploring the role of animals in Revolutionary-era Virginia. Learn how livestock, wildlife, and working animals shaped daily life 250 years ago, from farms to surrounding forests. Participants will work alongside archaeologists in an active excavation connected to the ongoing restoration and preservation of Timberneck House.

We will have tables from Machicomoco State Park, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), Jamestown Rediscovery, and the Virginia Living Museum, and farm animals from a local farm (The Farm at Hickory Fork) and adoptable dogs from the Friends of the Middlesex Animal Shelter.
