Spotlight Tour: Richmond’s Monumental Women with Dr. Jill George

About

Explore lesser-known stories of Richmond women on this special "Spotlight Tour" led by Jill George, PhD., author of Daughters of Stone and Grace. On a walk through Court End, Capitol Square, and Shockoe Bottom, learn about the courage and ingenuity of women like Mary Lumpkin, Lucy Goode Brooks, and Mary Richards Bowser. Plus, hear how primary sources from the Valentine archives contributed to the research process behind Daughters of Stone and Grace. After the tour, join us in the Valentine Museum Store for a book-signing and to purchase your copy of Daughters of Stone and Grace.

About the guest guide: Jill George, Ph.D. is a leadership consultant, behavioral scientist, and author of eight books. Daughters of Stone and Grace grew from her research into the women whose stories are carved into Virginia’s memorial sites but rarely told in full. Her work leverages allyship to illuminate women’s survival skills under institutional constraint.
