Red, White and You

About

Experience History. Celebrate Community. Carry the Legacy Forward.
While searching for his brother, who had fought in the French and Indian War, James Mayo Hoge instead found his true love, and together they built a home on land he named Hayfield, which is now known as Belle Hampton Farm in Dublin, Virginia. Since its founding in 1767, ownership of the property has remained within the extended Hoge family. For seven generations, the family has preserved this land, building a legacy rooted in agriculture, enterprise, and the broader development of the region.

On September 6, 2026, the Belle Hampton Legacy Center, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to historical preservation and education, will commemorate Belle Hampton's founding in 1767 alongside the spirit of America's founding in 1776. This 250-Year National Celebration will be held on Belle Hampton Farm and will honor the milestones that shaped both the property and the nation.

The event will take place at the Shuffle Pond Pavilion and will include guided tours of the historic family residence and cemetery. Speakers will share stories about the founding of the United States, accompanied by reenactments of key historical moments. A food court will feature crafts, activities, and menu offerings from Back Creek Wagyu.

Through the centuries, the story of Belle Hampton Farm has been closely intertwined with the growth of Southwestern Virginia. Members of the Hoge family have served in local, state, and federal government, as well as in the military. Their contributions have extended to education, religious life, industry, and community development. The Belle Hampton legacy reflects the values and dedication that helped shape both a region and a nation.

This celebration is more than a remembrance of the past. It honors those who carried the legacy forward and encourages future generations to do the same. As we gather to mark 250 years of the United States, we celebrate not only the history of a farm, but the enduring spirit of the people and place that helped build Virginia and shape America.

Let's celebrate our heritage, remember our heroes, and continue the story—together.
