**MAY FAIRE 2026 - A PATRIOTIC KICK-OFF FOR 250 YEARS OF FREEDOM
"MATHEWS MUSEUM CELEBRATES VIRGINIA’S 250TH"**
Mathews Museum, proud sponsor of the county’s beloved annual spring festival, invites families and visitors to a special two-day May Faire, taking place May 2 and May 3, 2026, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of our Nation’s founding.
In honor of this historic milestone, May Faire 2026 will celebrate the enduring spirit, traditions, and history of Mathews while offering wholesome, family-friendly fun for all ages. Over two full days, guests will enjoy living history, live music, local vendors, food, children’s activities, hands-on demonstrations, dancing, and unique museum exhibits-all designed to educate, inspire, and bring generations together.
This festive weekend will proudly serve as the official kick-off to the county’s July 4th celebrations, launching a season of revolutionary-era activities that honor the people and principles that shaped our nation. Co-chairs Josie Thorpe and Melody Barnes promise a heartfelt, old-fashioned community celebration featuring cherished traditions such as the May Pole dance and the annual pound cake contest.
Families are invited to step back in time, celebrate American heritage, and make lasting memories at this one-of-a-kind event that honors Mathews’ role in Virginia’s story-and America’s 250 years of freedom.
