Genealogy Workshop | Early Virginia Genealogy

Genealogy Workshop | Early Virginia Genealogy

About

Explore methods and resources for researching Virginia genealogy prior to 1850. Senior reference archivist Cara Griggs will present ways that information can be found despite record loss and records that lack detail. This workshop provides an overview of colonial government, focusing on a variety of record types that will help place an individual in a particular time and location and to potentially link generations together (if records survive). Topics include records generated by British, state and local government records, records of religious organizations, Virginia Land Office records, records that document immigration and migration, military records and newspapers.

This event is free, but registration is required. Limited free parking is available underneath the Library at 800 East Broad Street. For more information, contact education@lva.virginia.gov.
