Between January and April of 2023, Rivanna Archaeological Services conducted phased archaeological investigations at the site of the former Swan Tavern, a tavern and house of entertainment established ca. 1773 by John Jouett, Sr. and located east of and adjacent to Court House Square in Charlottesville, Virginia. This talk will present the findings of these investigations, summarize the artifacts recovered, cultural features documented, and discuss the significance of the property.
