Julie Dunn - Lecture - 1 p.m.

Ms. Dunn is a Hill House Museum Board member with a passion for local history. She is excited to share details of General Lafayette's visit to Portsmouth gathered from newspaper articles and written accounts from local residents. She is joined by three museum interpreters, “The Women of the House,” describing Hill family connections to General Lafayette’s visit. Light refreshments will be served.

Lecture begins at 1 p.m.

Along with the lecture, the museum is open for tours noon to 3 p.m. Visitors will enjoy beautiful period decorations created from historical descriptions including transparencies. These painted paper and fabric panels decorated public spaces and the windows of private homes during Lafayette’s Farewell Tour. Once illuminated from behind, they create a vibrant image for onlookers. Additionally, elegant china sets owned by the Hill family, with authenticated ties to Lafayette’s visit of 1824, are displayed in the family dining room.
