On his way by horse and carriage to a ceremony at High Street Landing, Lafayette will stop at Historic Emanuel AME. Frederick Douglass, along with Reverend and Mrs. Colvin, will greet him and invite him into the sanctuary. Pastor Colvin will speak briefly on Emanuel's role in the Underground Railroad and Civil Rights Movement, after which the great orator Frederick Douglass will introduce Lafayette. After the General's address, all will be invited to join the procession to the Civic Arch, where Revolutionary War Veterans, including William "Billy" Flora and James Fayette will be recognized and the citizens of Portsmouth will continue to honor the Nation's Guest!
