The Friends of Urbanna, a 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to preserve, promote, and educate the local community on the deep and rich history of Urbanna and the surrounding areas will present Founders Day 2024, a Middlesex VA250 sanctioned event. This free and day-long event will feature a June 1776 living history event: a strategy meeting between historical interpreters portraying Founding Fathers George Mason and Richard Henry Lee, to be held in Urbanna Baptist Church at 121 Watling Street in Urbanna at 11 am. Other activities all over town include a fife and drum march through town preceding the 11 am performance and tours and storytelling at Urbanna’s one-of-a-kind Scottish Factor store, the only remaining Scottish Factor Store in the country, and home to the valuable Mitchell Map. History in the street and at the docks will include the recreated 17th and 18th century ships the Explorer and Luna, and an encampment and interpretation by “Anas Todkill,” who traveled with 17th century Chesapeake explorer John Smith. Urbanna’s historic home Lansdowne and the 18th century courthouse will be open for tours. Come to Urbanna to immerse yourself in colonial history!
