Little-Known American Revolution Shipyard Commemorated

About

At 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2024, the Richmond Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will dedicate a historical marker commemorating the Berkeley Plantation Shipyard, which produced 18 warships for the patriot cause.

The ceremony, featuring the Virginia SAR Color Guard (all dressed in Revolutionary War period uniforms), will be held at Berkeley Plantation - home of founding father, Continental Congress committee chair and Declaration of Independence signer Benjamin Harrison V.

Multiple Virginia SAR, DAR and other historical organizations will be on hand to commemorate Harrisonā€™s lesser-known, but no less significant, efforts in the establishment of our nation.

The event is particularly poignant as we enter the 250th anniversary of the events leading up to and achieving American independence. The public is invited to see this colorful and dignified ceremony. Berkeley Plantation admission prices apply.

Directions: Berkeley Plantation is located at: 12602 Harrison Landing Rd., Charles City, VA 23030.

The Richmond SAR thanks Berkeley Plantationā€™s owners and staff for their support in planning this event and the Knight-Patty Fund for its financial support.

The Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution are national patriotic, historical and educational societies whose members are direct descendants of the patriots who earned our independence
