Join Fort Nelson Daughters of the American Revolution as they rededicate the pyramid centennial monument they erected 100 years ago to the date. The monument commemorates the Oct. 25, 1824 visit of Revolutionary Major General Lafayette to Portsmouth! The rededication is part of a month-long celebration of that historic event, and will include patriotic and Lafayette-inspired music, as well as a proclamation by Mayor Shannon Glover declaring it Lafayette Day in Portsmouth! The rededication will take place against the backdrop of Youth Virginia Regiment's Revolutionary War Encampment, and through the magic of living history, YVR will reenact the Battle of Scotts Creek at 10 a.m. with Lafayette looking on as he did in 1824.
